Two main problems arise in medication management: drug contraindications and medication adherence. - Patients that are diagnosed with comorbid conditions (2+ conditions)are not aware of possible contraindications that can occur when taking and managing multiple medication dosages at the same time.

<aside> 💡 For example a sample patient with the condition of atrial fibrillation or mechanical heart valves, who are at an increased risk of blood clot formation would be prescribed both combination of warfarin and aspirin. However if warfarin and asprin are taken both at the same time it could cause internal bleeding. Detailed instructions provided by doctors serve to be extremely overwhelming for patients with these comorbid conditions.

Currently available hardware pill dispensers and medication management apps present significant challenges for the common consumer. Most apps tend to be very manual, in the sense that every point of information needs to be inputted by the patient, which is very time intensive. In addition, the hardware+app products solutions are primarily sold as B2B products to clinics and healthcare facilities, leaving a gap in the market for a standalone solution that combines the functionality of both a hardware pill dispenser and a medication management app. Additionally, existing hardware pill dispensers lack user-friendly interfaces, making them difficult to operate for patients with cognitive impairments. Similarly, medication management apps currently available on the market are often disconnected from hardware devices, leading to incomplete and unreliable medication tracking.

To address these challenges, a proposed solution is a comprehensive tool consisting of both software and hardware components. The tool includes an application and hardware pill dispenser designed to provide patients and caregivers with a more accessible and efficient medication management system. The application component utilizes AI to generate a medication plan that alleviates potential medication contraindications. The application also includes a user-friendly interface that displays the patient's weekly medication plan, daily medication schedule, and notifications when it is time to take medication. The hardware pill dispenser works seamlessly with the application, dispensing medication at the prescribed times and tracking medication consumption.
